What Contact Lens Wearers Need to Know about COVID-19

To our patient family:

First, Dr Hopkins and the staff at True Vision want to say thank you for both your patronage and especially your patience during this uncertain time. With so much information available to us all, we at True Vision want to make sure our patients have the most accurate information. At this time there has been no recommendation for contact lens wearers to discontinue use and switch to glasses only. However, the CDC does recommend that we avoid touching our face, eyes, nose and mouth. As a contact lens wearer this is naturally problematic.

Under normal circumstances, Dr Hopkins recommends washing your hands thoroughly before handling your contact lenses. Our official stance at this point is to wash your hands both before and after handling your contacts. This is true both for insertion and removal. We also strongly recommend that you strictly follow all manufacturer instructions for cleaning and disinfection listed on the packaging of your contact lens solution. If you still have concerns regarding disinfection, you may consider switching to a hydrogen peroxide solution system such as Clear Care. BE SURE TO CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU CHOOSE THIS TYPE OF DISINFECTION SYSTEM PRIOR TO USING IT.

We are also recommending that if you need a supply of contacts for the next 2-3 months that you place an order as soon as possible. We can not be sure how long distributors will continue to fill orders. Orders of at least 2 boxes can be shipped directly to you at no additional charge. Our office is now closed to all non-emergent patients until further notice. If necessary, we are extending contact lens prescriptions on a case by case basis for 3 months without an exam and fitting.

Finally, we are offering patients the option of switching temporarily to daily disposable contact lenses for those who are concerned about cleaning, disinfecting and reusing their current lenses. While these lenses are not compatible with every patient or prescription, you can call the office to discuss the possibility or if you have any specific questions about COVID-19 and contact lenses.

The office phone number is 740-277-7550. Our updated hours of service will be Tues-Fri 10 am-4 pm beginning on Tuesday, March 24th through Saturday, April 4th.

Our sincerest thanks,

Dr Anna K Hopkins and the staff at True Vision
